@Brett -- Further updates here: http://blog.sudosu.net/2007/malibu-fire-day-3-oct-23/

In summary, things appear to be better. Fire is holding near Carbon Canyon/Las Flores, as best I know.

I haven't heard /found any updates on the fire line headed to Topanga.

I just went up to the top of the hill where I live, overlooking the ridge by Stunt and Las Flores area, looks much better than yesterday, no planes, no smoke visible, winds still strong in our favor.

Anyone have any updates?

@g Yes. Updates resuming shortly. Good luck. Latest news out of T-CEP is that Topanga is closed to ANYONE, including residents. If you go out you can't come back.

Thanks for what you're doing. We're in Topanga in the P.O. Tract. Still "voluntary" evacuation. Are you updating for Day 3?

Just heard an interview on Knbc with some guy from the Malibu paper who said that Topanga has some good news! The fire is stalling under the ridge near Las Flores... Hopefully that is true and we'll all get a good nights rest, at least..

LACF says 10% on 3800+ acres; TCEP hasn't reported much of a change since this afternoon's announcements, though they've updated in the last hour.

LA Times had a piece with a guy from NASA/JPL in La Canada who was saying the winds should die down Wed afternoon.

Hope you were able to get in and get out.

@Brett -- As far as I can tell, you're still in a voluntary evacuation zone. I believe a CHP officer at Topanga and Mulholland is checking IDs and letting residents in -- but that information could be old. Make sure that your license has your Topanga address on it. If it doesn't have that (mine doesn't) I'd carry a couple of utility bills with you to prove that you live where you say you do.

Cool, man I really appreciate your coverage!

Question, I'm in Topanga behind Froggy's, would you know if I made a run to the Valley for a Uhaul if they would let me back in?

@Brett -- Yep, that's me. Thanks a bunch! Don't make life-or-death decisions based on it, though. I'm doing the best I can, but my sources are often vague and contradictory.

Thanks very much, M and Brett! Let me add that I welcome additions from other people -- if you've got information, photos, sources of info, or anything useful, please send it my way! jschofield@gmail.com

Thanks again for the compliment. I'm very glad this serves more of a purpose than calming my nerves with information overload.

Seconded. This is the best aggregation of news out there so far. I'm in Pacific Palisades and am not immediately in harm's way, but this has been the easiest way to keep updated.

Thank you SO MUCH for creating and updating this. It is by far the best info out there.

I am in Topanga, finding it difficult to get real info. The commercial news stations are just putting out over sensationalized infotainment with little usable news for us folks in harms way.

Did a quick photoshop superimposition of the Malibu map over a Google hybrid map, and it looks like you'd expect, based on the reports:
Malibu canyon to a little south of Piuma (northern extent); the pocket of untouched area near PCH is Cross Creek and near the Serra Retreat.

The eastern extent is past Sweetwater, nearing but about halfway between Sweetwater and Carbon Mesa.

As far as I can tell, assuming my overlay was lined up right.
